What I Wore Wednesday

Sweater Dress and Cardigan-Dex; Boots and Socks-Benneton; Purse-Arnold Churgins Shoes;Necklaces-Fine Finds Yaletown, Vancouver and Douglas Reynolds Gallery, Vancouver; Scarf-29 Palms; Watch-Michael Kors

Actually, I wore this yesterday but the title fit this publishing day so I ran with it. And yes, I totally stole borrowed that post title from other blogs. Well, the “What I Wore” part was borrowed. My creative side added the Wednesday! And I should add that the outfit inspiration came first from my beautiful niece Brandy Elizabeth. She always wears these cute dresses with amazing boots and socks. Even in summer! I just loved the look so I’ve stolen borrowed that too! Thanks Bran!!! I guess I should have called this What I Stole Borrowed Wednesday :)

Have a great day Y’all!

Love,

Suzie

  1. I love the dress with the boots & socks, those pieces are amazing. & well said, I believe that just because you start getting older doesn’t mean that fashion has to go out the window!!! Keep styling!

    • Well said sistah! Well said!!! And thank you…but what do you mean by “start getting older” ??? LOL :)

  2. You rock…someday when I am my normal me again, I hope to start putting pics up of my fashion styling…until then, I will just admire yours from afar. Love ya!

    • Awww, thank you…Sending the love right back at you!!!!

  3. Ahhh Suzie loved your soapbox preach on fashion!! Fashion is all about trying out a look and feeling comfortable rockin it at any age. I will say however having two teenage daughters keeps me in check as to what I wear, if it is too close to what they would wear to high school I am re-thinkin it a bit and putting my own spin on it. Thanks again for sharing, you rocked that one!

    • Thanks Shae!!! I absolutely agree with not trying to look like a teenager. I do think some looks are younger than others and are meant to stay in that world. You know, like the cheerleader uniform like is not supposed to be worn like post high school right ;) :)

      • “Like” I hear ya! :)

  4. Awesome style!

  5. Thank you so much for answering!!! It’s brrrrr cold here in Louweeeziana (65!!!) so I’ll def be rocking this out very soon!! You’re a real sweetheart!! and I’m blushing a little over your FB post!! heehee!! Continue to be awesome…
    Much love,
    Your new girl crush

    • You are very welcome. I’m happy you asked the question so that I could make that point :)

  6. You are beautiful. I love it!

  7. Well I am 55 and I would wear that. Thats what I like about Suzie’s look. Its timeless.

    • Thank you Kathleen!!!! I think that’s likely what I was trying to say to Jennifer, but as usual I am way more long winded about getting there :)

  8. I love love love you – and I need to ask a personal question, well maybe not ask the question – idk…here goes…how old are you??? EEEEEEEEKKK I did it ..asked a woman her age!! Why??? do you ask – well I LOVE LOVE LOVE what you have on – love the boots and dress…especially the SOCKS and I WANT to wear them too!!! I’m almost (next month) 37 – am I told old to rock this look??? I’m ok with boots and tighs – I’m pretty sure I’m in the age range to wear them with cute tunics and dresses…but worried about the socks??? Sorry if this is the most unacceptable post ever!!!

    • :) Jennifer, I truly smiled when I read this and trust me, I am not offended! Thanks for the smile…

I am older than you (and pah-leeze almost 37 if YOUNG) but I am not going to give you my exact age, not because I’m embarrassed or afraid to disclose it, but because I don’t want you or anyone else to concentrate on a number and be resigned that at a certain age you must stop doing certain things (like having long hair or wearing an above the knee skirt). I think fashion and style are about how you feel wearing what you have on. Do you feel confident and like you’re looking your best when you leave the house? That’s my own self-test. If I am at all self-conscious then I will turn around and change, or add or subtract something from the outfit. I’m fortunate that I have learned through trial and error, and through time I’ve developed some what of a personal style, to know what looks good on me and what does not (e.g. I do not wear peasant style blouses because I am broad shouldered…same goes for capped sleeves). But, I also find it really helps to take a quick snapshot of yourself in a full length mirror, especially if you are test driving a new look, because for some odd reason it allows you objectivity that you do not possess if you just look in the mirror alone.

That said, I believe “smart” is sexy, using our brains is what brings us confidence and respect–not an outfit, and that showing too much skin AT ANY AGE isn’t smart OR sexy!

Now to get back to the boots and socks. Try the look on. If you’re uncomfortable (remember, this is a personal thing but you may wish to consult a good friend if you are unsure in the beginning) then put on a pair of tights and pull the socks over top. Had it been colder yesterday I would have done that, but we were experiencing a balmy 16C temp so that would have been too warm.

OK, now I’ve written a book and preached a little I’ll get off my soapbox and stand down for a bit :). And if you decide to give the look a whirl, I’d love to see a pic. You can email it to me at Suzie@urbancountrystyle.com and I’d be happy to chime in. Heck, any of you can do that if you like. Or if you’re up to it you can post it to the UrbanCountryStyle Facebook page as well!

  9. Love this look Suzie, the high socks in the boots make it look so comfy yet pulled together. The fashionista seems to run in the family :)

    • Why thank you girl! And I know my niece certainly has it goin’ on!!!

  10. Love it!! It looks so comfy, yet totally chic..

    • Thank you! It really is cozy and when it gets a little colder I’ll add tights to warm it up even more. And thanks for stopping by girl!!!
